What is Spice Box?

The Spice Box is a student-run restaurant associated with the University of Illinois Hospitality Management Program.

Each Spice Box meal has two menu selections, a Prix Fixe four-course meal option, and a special two-course meal option. Prices vary by meal. Specialty wine and beverages are available.

Events are held on most Wednesdays and Fridays during spring semesters.

Reservations

Reservations are available every 15 minutes from 5:30-8:30 pm.

Call 217-333-6520 to request a reservation or book online through OpenTable for each event.

Peshawar to Punjab: Cuisine of Pakistan and Northern India – by FSHN 145

One night only! Book a reservation while they’re still available! On Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, the entire cohort of students currently enrolled in FSHN 145 at the University of Illinois will transform the Spice Box into a restaurant of their own design.

Prix Fixe ($38)

  • Bread Service: Naan – Roasted garlic oil basted then seared. Served with warm tomato chutney.
  • Salad: Kachumber Salad – Chilled tomato and cucumber salad with fresh mint, cilantro flower, preserved lemon juice and warming spiced tadka oil.
  • Appetizer: Samosa – Golden vegetable tempura with a side of sweet katsu sauce
  • EntrĂ©e: Chapli Kabab – Smashed Beef Kabab seasoned with toasted spices. Served over a cold chana chaat (chickpea) salad with grilled lime, turmeric yogurt sauce and a tamarind drizzle.
  • Dessert: Mango Mousse w/Kheer – Silky mango mousse layered with creamy kheer. Garnished with slivered almonds, chopped cashews, golden raisins, and saffron threads.

Special ($29)

  • Bread Service: Naan – Roasted garlic oil basted then seared. Served with warm tomato chutney.
  • Salad: Kachumber Salad – Chilled tomato and cucumber salad with fresh mint, cilantro flower, preserved lemon juice and warming spiced tadka oil.
  • Paneer Butter Masala – Seared Paneer served with a rich and fragrant tomato gravy over aromatic basmati rice and roasted cauliflower.

Dessert a la Carte ($6)

  • Dessert: Mango Mousse w/Kheer – Silky mango mousse layered with creamy kheer. Garnished with slivered almonds, chopped cashews, golden raisins, and saffron threads.
