What is Spice Box?

The Spice Box is a student-run restaurant associated with the University of Illinois Hospitality Management Program.

Each Spice Box meal has two menu selections, a Prix Fixe four-course meal option, and a special two-course meal option. Prices vary by meal. Specialty wine and beverages are available.

Events are held on most Wednesdays and Fridays during spring semesters.

Reservations

Reservations are available every 15 minutes from 5:30-8:30 pm.

Call 217-333-6520 to request a reservation or book online through OpenTable for each event.

A Food Science Showcase with the Bevier Culinary Instructors

Come help us celebrate the re-opening of the Spice Box! The first event of the semester serves as an example for all hospitality management students currently enrolled in FSHN 443 and FSHN 145. The menu for this evening was developed by the Bevier Hall culinary team and showcases a variety of food science principles.Snag a reservation while they are still available!

Prix Fixe ($35)

  • Bread Service: Sweet Yeast Rolls + Black Garlic Compound Butter Food science principles evident in this recipe include the Maillard reaction and fermentation.
  • Appetizer: Mushroom Croquettes + Black Truffle Mascarpone + Sauce Tomate + Micro Greens Food science principles evident in this recipe include fermentation and the Maillard reaction.
  • Salad: Lemon Caesar Food science principles evident in this recipe include fermentation and emulsification.
  • Entrée: Braised Brisket + Polenta Cake + Grilled Broccolini + Roasted Tomato Demi Glace + Crispy Shallots Food science principles evident in this menu item include denaturation and the Maillard reaction.
  • Dessert: Passion Fruit Panna Cotta Food science principles evident in this recipe include gelation.

Special ($30)

  • Passion Fruit Panna Cotta Creamy passion fruit panna cotta served with fresh berries and a pirouette. Food science principles evident in this recipe include gelation.

Featured Beverage ($6)

  • Spice Box Red Sangria Made with a beautiful Edna Valley California pinot noir, oranges, lemons, and orange liqueur. Food science principles evident in this recipe include maceration.
